Greenback is a small city in Loudon County, Tennessee. It is located east of the Little Tennessee River and about 30 northwest of the North Carolina state border. According to the United States Census Bureau, Greenback had a population of approximately 1,119 people in 2016.
Greenback is located in a region of Tennessee that was originally inhabited by Native American peoples. Eventually, settlers of European descent arrived in the area and began establishing settlements. In 1876, a general store was opened by Lorenzo Thompson. The store, known as Thompson’s Stand, was located a few miles east of modern-day Greenback. Eventually, Thompson applied to operate a federal post office in his store. Thompson chose Greenback as the name of his post office. Thus, the earliest stages of development for the City of Greenback began.
Modern-day Greenback is a charming, small city. It is home to many community facilities and amenities. Located in Greenback are the Greenback Memorial Baptist Church, Greenback Public Library, Greenback School and Regions Bank. With its small-town atmosphere and friendly locals, Greenback is one of the most charmingly small cities in eastern Tennessee.
Greenback is susceptible to various weather conditions. Professional HVAC technicians recommend residents have access to cooling and heating systems. During the months of June, July, and August, average daytime temperature highs range from the mid to upper-80s. Precipitation is common during the summer months as well. Cooling systems like central air conditioning units help Greenback residents stay cool and comfortable in their homes when temperatures rise.
In addition to cooling systems, Greenback residents should have heating units installed in their homes. During the winter seasons, average daytime temperature highs range from the upper-40s to low-50s and dip below freezing at night. Heating systems that are properly installed by professional HVAC technicians protect residents and their homes from harsh winter weather conditions.
